President’s Day 2024
Following the first attempt at holding the President’s Day in May, when the weather was just not on our side, this special day of competitions was held in much better conditions on the 8th of June.
These two photos were taken at the start of the event, showing all the members playing in the Spider competition. Here the Jack is placed in the centre of the Green, and the competitors stand on all four sides of the Green, with one foot in the ditch. When a whistle is blown all players bowl their wood, and the closest bowl to the Jack wins the Prize (A Bottle of Whiskey). The winner today was our Vice Captain, Andy Smith.

The highest scoring team in the Mixed Triples Competition, representing Okehampton Players
From left to right, is Nigel Joy, Ron Uren and Mark Poole, with President John Mansell on the right.
The second highest scoring team, representing the President’s Team
From left to right, is Club Secretary, Rob Calam, Ivan Caws, with President John Mansell in the middle. Unfortunately the third member of the team, Joanna Slater, was unable to stay to the prize giving.
The afternoon although a little chilly, was played in great spirit, and our very grateful thanks go to all those who helped with the bar, teas, donations of food, ice creams and Pimms, and to all members who supported the event by playing. Through everyone’s generosity, and after raising £400, we will now be able to enhance some of the fittings in the new Changing Rooms, which will benefit us all.
Thank you all for making my President’s Day another memorable occasion.
Best Wishes.
John Mansell, President O.S.B.C.
